Goodbye Sergeants Demo Review

Goodbye Sergeants
Demo EP

Self-Released

This is, without question, the best demo EP I've ever heard, for sheer fun and entertainment value. Goodbye Sergeants purvey a brand of no-frills rock which is sadly lacking in the current 'indier- than-thou' slew of pointless, mediocre bands currently clogging up the UK scene, and they should be commended for it.

It isn't just that which sets them apart though, oh no. These songs are diamonds in the rough. Classic rock tunes, with hooky choruses, big fat stonking riffs and more than a few laugh out loud moments.
Since this EP was released the band have re-worked 'I Wish I Was Good Looking in a Boyband Kind of Way' in preparation for a push with that song, but here it's biting riff ricochets cacophonously through a thumping track over which Rich Keeble laments his looks (possibly!?!).

'Over So Soon'. How to describe what that's about. Well, actually, I'd rather leave it to you, but it appears to be about something which the writer wishes hadn't, ahem, been over so soon. It is also a fantastic song. This is classic old-skool punk with just enough hints of modern rock to keep the cool kids interested. 'Idiots' closes out proceedings with no drop in tempo or temperature.

I urge you to check out this band. They may not be 'scene' or doing something which is entirely new, but they flat-out rock, and they're great fun to boot.

How many times have you wished that bands would just shut up whining and turn it up to 11? Well, this is the band for you. Classic stuff.

9 out of 10
