Pillar Album Review

Pillar
Where Do We Go From Here? (Limited Edition Re-release)
I reviewed this album when it made its original appearance in 2004, and I stand by my original opinion: this is good, particularly "Bring Me Down", but never quite reaches the heights of "Fireproof" in terms of the overall impact. So, why the re-release? Well, as a fully paid-up member of the cynics club, I have to say that it must be a case of record companies cashing in on the fan base of a successful band, but I'm sure somebody, somewhere would like to argue that one with me. The expanded edition features two "fresh" cuts, except, they're not fresh at all. "Sunday, Bloody Sunday", is Pillar's cover of the U2 song which originally appeared on the 'Pride: In the Name of Love' various artists album (from 2004), while the remix of "Bring Me Down" seems a bit of a throwaway. For fans of Pillar, however, the accompanying DVD is a must, featuring insightful interviews, music videos, an extensive gallery of photos and much more. It's just a shame the two products could not be sold separately, as the DVD is as essential as the audio portion is a waste of time if you already have the original CD release.
