Tehillah Commission
Dying to Myself
This EP marks the recording debut of UK band Tehillah Commission, and it shows distinct signs of promise. In singer Luke Bacon, the band possess a singer with enough soulful chops to soar above any chord progression. They also seem to have a commendable zeal for ministry (see the clever "No 1 Night Stand" and "Not Surplus") which one can only hope is never driven from them. Sadly, the apparent limitations in recording budget show up on a couple of songs, with opener "Paul's Song" and the title track driven more by acoustic guitars than perhaps they might be on a bigger budget recording. The overall sound for the record comes down to a kind of '70s soft rock vibe, but it's acoustic closer "Wonder Y" which really piques my interest, drawing out Bacon's vocals to a greater extent and showcasing the band's winning way with melody. The pic on the inlay shows the band in full energetic live thrall, and I can well imagine them to be an affecting live prospect. A band to watch for in the future.
